BLIS Advantage: BLISCare Financial Protection
BLISCare is an innovative specialized insurance policy only available for select surgeons approved by BLIS. The insurance policy enables the surgeon to include protection for their patients from the cost of covered complications as part of the price they charge patients for surgery. Patients of the BLIS Surgeon have no financial responsibility for medical care authorized by their surgeon for the care and treatment of the post-surgical complication.
BLISCare works like a factory warranty. Protection from complication related medical expense is included in the surgical fee paid to the surgeon. Based on the type of BLISCare program the surgeon has designed with BLIS, patients will not be billed for any complication related care from within the time frames specified.
BLISCare currently covers known complications from the following bariatric surgical procedures:
- Laparoscopic RNY Gastric Bypass
- Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding
- Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy
The BLIS Surgeon will have specific details on which complication events are included in their protection package which they have created for their patients. These events can include caridiovascular, respiratory, infection, bleeding, leaks, band slip, band erosion, port site problems and other known complications related to the covered procedure.
For those events which are included and for the time frames specified, the BLIS Surgeon can authorize medical care as required. When they do, BLIS will pay the medical providers on a direct basis for all care and treatment which is related. This includes all hospital facility charges, medical professionals, ancillary services, rehabilitation and medicine.
